Creative Christmas Gift Ideas
I've had multiple people ask me about creative Christmas ideas. Maybe you are a parent or grandparent who want to get something your kiddo(s) will use more than once and isn't a video game or electronic. Here are a few of Carsen's favorite educational/imaginative and creative toys.
Imagination Magnets
Ages: 3 and up
I bought this for Carsen when he was about three and he still loves it. I love that it comes in a case with a latch. It makes it easy to take with us.
Imaginative play with magnetic shapes! You are all set for fun with Imagination Magnets! Your traveling case includes 42 well-crafted solid wood blocks and 50 full-colored designs to replicate. Fun themes include animals, faces, vehicles, activities, sports and structures. For added creativity the inside panels are dry-erase marker ready. Ages 3+. Educational Focus: Visual thinking skills, fine motor skills and creativity.
Number-Bots
Ages: 3-8
Carsen was gifted Number-Bots on his fourth birthday and loves these things! There are also Alpha-Bots which look fun.
Ordinary numbers one moment…extraordinary robots the next! With just a few twists and turns, numbers transform into super-cool robots that kids can’t resist…boosting counting and number recognition skills as children play! Set includes 10 robots, plus 5 operation symbols to build math problems. Numbers measure approximately 2".
Lite Brite
Ages: 4-adult
I LOVED my Lite Brite growing up, and feel it's just another way for Carsen to be imaginative.
Kids can create beautiful glowing works of art with this Lite Brite Magic Screen. Similar to the classic toy you remember, this redesigned Lite Brite includes some improvements that make it better and more fun to use than ever. It produces brighter images with blinking light effects, uses reusable Lite Brite templates and has new peg shapes that create more detailed pictures. A great way to light up her creativity and imagination, you can be sure she'll enjoy hours of fun creating gorgeous masterpieces just like you used to.
Boogie Board
Age: Anyone
Carsen was gifted this and has been a HUGE help for car rides, whether to Colorado or the store. It's a wonderful item to take to restaurants and Carsen will spend so much time on it at home.
Eliminate the need for paper, scratch pads and sticky notes - simply write and erase.
The durable, ultra-lightweight LCD writing screen is engineered to feel just like writing with a pen on paper.
The image stays as long as you need it to and can be erased with the touch of a button.
Create again and again, without the need to charge or connect.
Snap Circuits Jr.
Ages: 8-108
I bought this for Carsen maybe a year ago? He's played with it many times and loves it. Even though it says 8-108, he's already created a good amount of the projects.
Let your little one have fun learning to build circuits with these colorful Electronic Snap Circuits. Each one features more than 60 parts that easily snap together. The snap circuits toy can be used to make interesting circuits, encouraging educational play that teaches your little one about electricity. All of the parts have colored graphics that represent their real electronic names and symbols. This educational toy comes with a complete instruction manual and project guide that helps you to guide your child through exploring over 300 experiments. Some of the projects include making circuits for doorbells, radios, alarms, flash lights, laser light, street lamps, a lie detector and a fan modulator. This kids' snap circuits toy runs on four AA batteries that are sold separately.
We also LOVE monthly subscriptions!!! This is a gift that keeps on giving every month.
Highlights High Five Magazine
Ages: 2-6
My mom started Carsen's Highlights subscription when he was about three. We have LOVED finding a new magazine in the mailbox each month and sitting down together to read.
Your preschooler or kindergartner will love High Five™ magazine, because it’s designed and written just for their age group. High Five is an exciting, colorful, fun-filled magazine developed by the early childhood experts at Highlights to encourage and inspire tender hearts and curious young minds.
*They have a regular subscription for ages 6-12 as well.
Kiwi Co
Ages: They have different age groups, even adults!
My uncle got this for Carsen and we LOVE getting our creative learning box. This was the contents from our very first box.
You get: Hands-on fun to explore art, science, and engineering. High-quality materials and kid-friendly instructions and ideas for tinkering. Extend the fun with comics, experiments, and games.
Friends, never underestimate the power of construction paper, scissors, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, googlie eyes and glitter. Make your own Creative Arts Kit to gift!
A few other ideas include the Little Passports subscription box and a membership to the zoo or children's museum. Plus board games including Scrabble Jr., Sequence Jr., Ticket to Ride Jr., Boggle, Blokus, etc. We have all of these, and while we might not totally play each one by the rules just yet, it's another opportunity for Carsen to create his own rules, see letters, and imagine.
I hope you found this post helpful for this Holiday season. Give the gift of imagination and creativity!
In the comments, let us know if there is a creative/imaginative gift you have given that isn't on this list. And let me know if you'd like a post about some of our very favorite books!
