The Red Sea

The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia.

The Red Sea is one of four seas named in English after common color terms — the others being the Black Sea, the White Sea and the Yellow Sea.

In Exodus 13: 17-15:21, the Israelites escape the pursuit from the Egyptians by crossing the Red Sea. Moses raised his staff and stretched out his hand over the sea dividing the waters for the Israelites to cross on dry land.
